A New Luxury Mountain Retreat Offered at Construction Cost. 2+ acre lot with Views of Waterfalls, Ponds, and Long-Range Mountains is Free. Was $600,000 - Now $476,375 - Save $125,000 - Through June 1, MLS 41541

If you are looking for rustic elegance, don't miss this opportunity to save $125,000. Take advantage of the slow real estate market to acquire a tremendous custom built new house at the construction cost. We are giving away the 2+ acre lot for free. You will not find a more beautiful home at a better price anywhere in Western North Carolina.

The Atrium House sits on Lot 8 and offers a commanding view of the ponds and waterfalls of Silvercrest and long-range mountain views of National Forest and Wayah Bald. This 2700 square foot, 3 bedroom plus study, 3 full baths home combines the grandeur of a luxury rustic retreat with the intimidate charm of a country home. With a 2-story stone-and-glass atrium and 3 fireplaces, bay window seats, and built-in bookcases, it is rich in architectural detail.

The Atrium House was built by Mike Welch, the premier builder in Franklin.  The quality of his work and materials is apparent everywhere.

The Atrium House is rich in architectural details and charm. You'll be immediately struck with the dramatic 2-story glass-and-stone atrium. Inside you'll find such visual pleasures as built-in bookcases, oak window seats, and tongue-and-grove ceilings.
The exterior has been professionally landscaped with easy-to-maintain, attractive hardy plants. If you'd like to have a garden, you have plenty of room in this 2+ acre tract. But if you're like many people, you'd rather keep yardwork to a minimum. We've landscaped with this in mind.
There's a large 2-car garage, with two stylish bay doors. There's plenty of level, easy parking for your friends and family. Also, adjacent to the garage is a large heated workshop.
One of the amazing things about the Atrium House is its views. You see the mountains of the Nantahala National Forest and Wayah Bald in the distance. And you look out over ponds and waterfalls right below. But unlike many view houses, the Atrium house isn't hanging off a cliff. It's situated on gentle ground, close to a well maintained state road for easy access.
Because the weather is in the mountains lovely most of the year, decks and balconies are essential. You'll find a private balcony off the master bedroom, and a private deck off the downstairs study (which could easily serve as a bedroom)
In addition to the decks, there's a large, wrap-around covered porch, just the place to sit outside when it rains or you'd prefer shade. The exterior ceiling on the porch is tongue-and-grove pine.
The front yard is a lush, expansive meadow. And in case you're thinking, who is going to mow that thing - you'll be happy to know that the meadow has been designed for bush-hogging, a simple, low cost operation offered by many people here.
Let's go inside (and back to our favorite photo). The floor plan in the main part of the house is open and flowing. The kitchen connects to the dinning room/great room for easy entertaining. The dining room has a unique cantilevered balcony extending (only slightly) into the atrium. All the upstairs floors are oak. All the windows are Anderson. The great room ceiling is tongue-and-grove.
There are three fireplaces in the Atrium House, one in the living room (that's one you see here), another in the master bedroom and a third in the family room. All are gas powered, making them easy to operate.
Your view from the great room, as well as many other rooms, is one of green mountains in close and some of the highest mountains in the region in the distance.
The kitchen is well appointed. The cabinets are a light coffee glazed maple, with all wood interiors. The refrigerator is a trio-style with three doors and the freezer at the bottom. The stove is a Kitchenaide. The countertops here (and in each of the three bathrooms) are granite. And the fixtures here, like those throughout most of the house, are oil-rubbed bronze. A nicely sized laundry room is on the main floor, just behind the white door near the refrigerator.
An extraordinary, graceful staircase connects the main floor to the downstairs. Situated in the 2-story atrium, you are surrounded by mountain views and walls of glass as you descend.
The family room is directly beneath the great room. It is filled with light and runs the width of the house. (In case you're wondering, the shiny surface you see on the floor is a plastic cover we've put over the neutral tone Frieze carpets to protect them for the new owners.)
The master bedroom was designed to feel like a country inn. There are his and her walk-in closets, a fireplace, wainscoting, and french doors opening to a private balcony. The master bathroom has a stand-alone shower, a jacuzzi whirlpool tub, and his and her medicine chests over dual sinks.
Here's the layout for the upstairs. The downstairs follows the same footprint, and contains a full bathroom, a study, a family room, a linen closet, a heated workshop and a generous two-car garage.

Was $600,000. Now offered at $476,375. MLS 41541
